Paris Arrondissements: A Guide to the Heart of the City

Paris is divided into 20 districts called arrondissements that spiral out from the city center. Each arrondissement has its own unique character and atmosphere, making it possible to experience different sides of the city depending on where you are.

The most central districts

The central arrondissements, 1st to 4th, are home to many of Paris’ most iconic sights. Here you’ll find the Louvre, Notre-Dame and the charming streets of Le Marais. These neighborhoods are historic and often packed with tourists.

The intellectual café neighborhoods

In it 5. and The 6th arrondissement is home to the Latin Quarter and Saint-Germain-des-Prés, known for their intellectual heritage and bohemian vibe. Universities, bookstores and old cafés dot the streets and the area attracts students, artists and writers.

The picturesque neighborhood of Montmartre

To the north in the 18th arrondissement lies Montmartre, one of the most picturesque neighborhoods, crowned by the Sacré-Cœur. Here, historic charm meets modern art and culture. Close by is the more multicultural 19th and 20th arrondissements, which show a different, more local side of Paris.

Iconic monuments – Eiffel Tower and Champs-Élysées

To the west are the exclusive areas of the 7th and 8th arrondissements, home to the Eiffel Tower, Champs-Élysées and luxury boutiques. These neighborhoods attract the wealthy elite and tourists in search of glamour.

Each arrondissement has its own unique charm and history, making Paris a city that can be experienced in many different ways. Whether you’re looking for art, history, fashion or local atmosphere, each neighborhood has something special to offer.
