Historic surroundings
Located in the 4th and 5th arrondissements, Pont de Sully offers a quieter and more local experience than Paris’ more famous bridges. With its beautiful views of the river and its historic surroundings, the Pont de Sully is a perfect place for a leisurely stroll.
The story behind Pont de Sully
Pont de Sully was built in 1876 as part of Baron Haussmann’s major urban renewal project. It replaced two previous bridges on the same site and was built to improve the connection between the two riverbanks and Île Saint-Louis. The bridge is named after Maximilien de Béthune, the Duke of Sully, who was an important minister under Henry IV.
With two separate sections that meet on the island, Pont de Sully is an architecturally interesting bridge that combines functionality with aesthetics.
A bridge with tranquility and views
The bridge is known for its peaceful atmosphere and stunning views. From the bridge you can enjoy panoramas of the Seine, Île Saint-Louis and Notre-Dame in the distance. It is also less frequented by tourists, making it an ideal place for those looking for a quieter experience in Paris.
