Rodin Museum – meet the Thinker

The Rodin Museum, or Musée Rodin, is located in the beautiful Hôtel Biron in the 7th arrondissement of Paris. This museum presents Auguste Rodin’s most iconic works alongside his inspirations and the works of contemporary artists.

A historical framework

Hôtel Biron, an elegant 18th century manor house, is home to the Rodin Museum. The building and surrounding gardens were rented in the early 1900s by Rodin, who later donated his art collection and workshop to the French state on condition that it became a museum.

The works that fascinate the world

The museum houses many of Rodin’s most famous masterpieces, including:

  • The Thinker(Le Penseur), one of his most iconic sculptures symbolizing deep reflection.
  • The Kiss(Le Baiser), a sensual sculpture celebrating the passion of love.
  • The Gates of Hell(La Porte de l’Enfer), a monumental work inspired by Dante’s The Divine Comedy.

In addition to Rodin’s works, the museum also includes works by Camille Claudel, Rodin’s student and muse, as well as Rodin’s personal art collection, which includes paintings by artists such as Van Gogh and Monet.

An oasis in the middle of the city

The museum gardens are a highlight in themselves. The 3-hectare park is adorned with sculptures, flowerbeds and tranquil paths, making it a peaceful experience. Here you can stroll among works like The Thinker and Balzac in an idyllic green setting.
